One of the most sought-after in the jewellery and gemstones sector, emerald, a mineral belonging to the beryl family, is characterized and known for its green colour, which results from small chromium and vanadium impurities.
Among its many meanings and beliefs, the emerald is said to attract prosperity and financial stability, as well as physical, intellectual and emotional balance. Purifying aspects or self-healing powers of this gemstone are also known.
Its best-known version is the emerald stone, which can have green or bluish colours, but there are other types such as the trapiche emerald stone, which is a very rare variant, the synthetic emeralds, whose commercialization began around the 30s, and the emeralds imitation, such as green quarts or green tourmaline, which look like the original stone but are sold at a much cheaper price.
Although it is quite difficult to find this type of gemstone, its main deposits are in Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The emerald is, with the ruby and the sapphire, the gem that is most commercialized globally for first-class jewellery.
